Methylphenidate HCl
Indications/Uses
ADHD & narcolepsy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 20-30 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses. Childn ≥6 yr Initially 5 mg twice daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 30-40 min before meals.
Contraindications
Anxiety, tension, agitation, hyperthyroidism, cardiac arrhythmia, severe angina pectoris, glaucoma. Motor tics, family history or diagnosis of Tourette's syndrome.
Special Precautions
Not for treatment of exogenous or endogenous depression & normal fatigue states. Epilepsy, HTN. Avoid long-term use. Childn <6 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Nervousness, insomnia, headache, drowsiness, anorexia, dizziness, dyskinesia, tachycardia, palpitation, arrhythmia, changes in BP & heart rate, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, rash, pruritus, urticaria, fever, arthralgia, hair loss.
Drug Interactions
MAOIs, coumarin anticoagulants, phenobarb, phenytoin, primidone, phenylbutazone, imipramine, clomipramine, desipramine, guanethidine, alcohol.
